Worst Pad Thai Ever (keep reading)
We stopped in shortly after 7pm on a Sunday. The sign said closing at 10, Google incorrectly showed 8pm. This gave us more time to spend browsing the menu & snooping about than originally planned. It was busy, still we were seated right away. Shortly after being seated, Quentin came up & adv he'd be helping us this evening. Once he heard we'd never been in, rather, the guy from Burzurk sent us here to eat, he gave us the rundown & his recommendations.
He suggested the schnitzel sandwich, fries with all the sauces & Pad Thai. We, being easily swayed, agreed that this was a fine selection and rolled with it. A few minutes later, Quentin let us know they'd run out of the pad Thai. We went with the 3rd (& self-proclaimed most popular) hot chicken (aka chicken & waffles). The grace with which the situation was handled was impressive. The hot chicken was good (I said like general those, only except tasty), BUT that schnitzel sammie is phenomenal. (We've been debating whether this one or Andy's horseradish verrsion in Munich was better. We may hafta retry both to be sure.)
I truly wish we'd done the full version and split it, as we were ready to pop after half/half & the boney bread. Neither of us had room for even a crumb of dessert. So, we got it to go.
The creative use of the doors and windows made for a lovely environment. The food and beer was delish. The service, well, it's not often that you hear someone outright say they are proud to work here or of the products being put out. Kudos on being "the unicorn"Helpful 5Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Hannah J.Chicago, IL036Feb 9, 2024
Date night in Grand Haven! Originally had 3 choices and this is the one we went with. Greeted with kindness by the host and was immediately sent to a table. My boyfriend and I started with an appetizer of the Unicorn Pomme in a full order ($7)
He also had ordered a Tangerine Space Machine from the waitress and it didn't come out until our main courses did which was a little disappointing and poor timing, but it happens, bars get busy.
The fries were amazing and a great portion for how inexpensive they were.
I ordered the Flemish Mac and Cheese ($15) and my boyfriend had ordered the Fish n Frites ($16)
The Mac and cheese was more on the soupy end of the consistency, but I also believe it's possible that's the natural look of the meal as it is a Belgium inspired dish and I'm unfamiliar with their recipes.
The fish n frites were a good portion as well as it came with coleslaw and a homemade tartar sauce.
Our waitress was overall very friendly and personable.
Our total came out to $49.72 with 2 main courses, an appetizer, a coke product, and a beer. I thought that was a great price for everything we ordered.
Only thing I would note is the timeliness of our beer coming to the table and the tables are very close together, I hit the lady behind me on numerous occasions and I felt like I was in the conversation with the table to the right of me
Overall super happy with my visit and would definitely come again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 2, 20241 check-in
Excellent little spot if you're traveling through Michigan. Clean, friendly, great beer selection and excellent food.
The schnitzel is a little less belligerent (which is good) than most of the flattened torso sized ones people squeeze on tiny buns. But if you want, the "full portion" is a whole second schnitzel. Great fries and dipping sauces.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 24, 20241 check-in
We stopped by the Unicorn Tavern on a recommendation from a friend and it was amazing! We split the fish and chips and the boney bread, and they were both delicious! The interior is uniquely decorated and has a cozy and nostalgic feel. It definitely feels like the kind of place where you'd want to sit and stay awhile. Despite the late hour, our food was brought out really quickly and it was a great temperature. We'll definitely be coming back with friends!

I've had Unicorn Tavern on my list for almost a year, so I was excited to finally stop in while on a little day adventure to Grand Haven from GR. I'd browsed the menu so I knew the food offerings were unique with a Belgian influence.
We were greeted right away when we walked in and given an option of a booth or a high top table so we chose a booth. Our server was super kind and wonderful. The menu is fun to look at, but a bit overwhelming as they have lots of options! I recommend reviewing it ahead of time.
Nate and I ordered the Scourmont schnitzel to split with a side of frites and a cup of the Belgian onion soup. The sandwiches come in lite or full portions. The lite portion of the Scourmont schnitzel has one pork cutlet, and the full portion has two. We got the full since we were splitting.
I didn't order anything to drink but they have a lot of gin options, including a build your own gin and tonic section, as well as other drinks, beer, wine, and N/A options. The proceeds from some of the drinks went to local charities and organizations, which I thought was super cool. The vibe inside is pub-y with lots of fun art and artifacts to look at. I also liked that our menu cover was colored by a tiny visitor - so cute! Seems like a family-friendly spot as we saw many kids.
It was a bit of a chilly rainy day when we visited, so the food was perfect. It wasn't overly heavy which I appreciated. When our food came out, the sandwich was cut in half and they provided an extra plate - such a great touch that feels above and beyond. The food was amazing. I loved the sandwich as the pretzel bun was soft and easy to bite but held up to the large, super crispy cutlet. I also loved the frites and the sauce we ordered - it tasted a bit like spicy mayo. The soup was perfect to warm us up and I loved that it had cheese topped bread. Everything was perfectly seasoned and not overly salty.
The owner stopped by our table to clear some plates and he was really pleasant to talk to. I absolutely loved our experience at The Unicorn Tavern and I will definitely be making the drive from Grand Rapids to try more of their food.Helpful 14Thanks 3Love this 13Oh no 0 - Judy V.Holland, MI0395Apr 5, 2024
The beverage menu was extensive. The food menu had plenty of options. Our server Mich was very knowledgeable and the right amount of attentive. She also took time to answer our questions as this was our first visit. The prices were comparable, especially since you have a choice of small or large for many of the food options. I had the small Schnitzel sandwich with fries and it was plenty to eat. We will definitely be back!

Such a fun spot! I liked the use of various doors used as the partition down the center of the restaurant. We were there on a very busy Saturday night and had about a 45 minute wait for a table for 4.
My hubby and I both ordered the scourmont schnitzel (him the full, be the lite). The difference between the sizes was his had an extra schnitzel on the sandwich. We both added pomme frites. The house sweet hot mustard was perfect against the pickles, raclette, and breaded pork. I honestly have no idea how my hubby polished off the full sandwich as the lite version was super filling! I would 100% order it again.
Their drink menu has a lot of traditional cocktails as well as a few disguised under a new name (The Science of Flight = aviation, Before You Interrupt Me= last word), plus some that are all their own. My friend and I both had a delicious gin cocktail made with a montmorency cherry syrup and lemon.
We will definitely plan a return trip soon!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - 7149136Oct 7, 2023
Oh wow! What an incredible experience!
We were greeted immediately by a very friendly host that made us feel welcome and wanted.
Our server was Jennifer and she was charming, personable, and attentive. For drinks to start we had a Unicorn Ale by Burzerk and a Negroni, both were delicious.
We had a hard time selecting entrees! We decided to split the Flemish Mac & Cheese with fried chicken and the Brussels burger and a small Caesar salad. Everything so so good! The mac was rich, but not overly heavy. Hard to explain. The noodles were cooked perfectly. The burger was juicy and flavorful. The salad was so good! I know it's a standard, but something about it - maybe the charred piece of bread instead of a crouton? It was super tasty!
We will be back!

I have been there 2 times recently and I can honestly say the food is great! The service was great too. I strongly recommend it!

The atmosphere and service was great! We were in from out of town and arrived right when they opened so there was no wait.
The mimosas were so weak, the champagne could not be tasted, but the other drinks we had were good--the September drink of the month was delicious.
The custard Belgian toast didn't seem to come with any custard? Two of us ordered this dish and were expecting somewhat of a stuffed French toast, but got dry French toast with some cold strawberry compote for dipping. It was okay, but not worth $14.
Overall, it was good but I would not reorder the same dish again. I would probably come for dinner fare over the brunch.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
