Stayed at the motel's location downtown. Walking distance to most everything. As mentioned by other reviewers, the apartment felt a bit in disarray and felt unclean - especially the bathroom. (I tried to avoid it.) The fridge didn't work properly, the sheets were extremely thin and pilling; the mattresses were old / poor quality. Tried to open the windows to get some fresh air, but weren't operable and really, kind of filthy.

Advertising that it sleeps four is misleading; the loveseat "sleeper sofa" offered a paper-thin mattress.

Understandably you get what you pay for, but minor investments and cleaning practices would go along way; simple amenities like better towels & sheets. And some major improvement in the bathroom area.

We stayed at the downtown suites located a couple
miles from the main beach location. The downtown suites are in a great location (near shopping and restaurants), but unfortunately it is poorly taken care of by the owner.

Upon arriving my friend and I were appalled by the level of cleanliness in both of the suites we rented. There were cobwebs, dirty floors, random hairs, and we found mouse dropping behind the night stand and TV. Since most of the town had no vacancy we decided to stay since we had 6 other friends joining us for a girls/bachelorette weekend.
While leaving the hotel that evening we ran into the owner Mike who asked if we were a bachelorette party, when we said yes he flew off the handle. He told us bachelorette parties weren't allowed (we weren't aware) and he'd kick us out if he had a single complaint. We assured him he wouldn't get any complaints and we would be courteous of other guest. Just then a couple arrived for their stay and he began pointing at us and told the guest they'd have a bachelorette party above them and if they had any issues what so ever to call him no matter what time of night. We were so embarrassed!

Day 2 we found a live cockroach in the closet! None of us slept that night.

I discovered after returning home that I left a
Crockpot at the hotel and called to see if they found it. I also alerted them of the mouse droppings and cockroach we spotted. I heard nothing for a week so I called again and repeated my message since it was relayed the first time. Later in the day The owner called and said they had my crockpot and to come down to the main location. I did and upon arriving realized the beach location was in the same poor conditions as the downtown location. Mike came out and spoke me and said they looked the Suites over and found no pest/droppings and they only found "glitter"Left from our party (we had no glitter). I informed him of the unclean conditions and he soon turned the tables and started making false accusations about our party (saying we had 9 people not 8) we purposely booked the hotel knowing the rules about parties. He beyond rude and demeaning to me. I couldn't take being disrespected anymore and walked away, he continued to yell and then told me "to be careful". It felt like a threat.

Please don't make the same mistake I did and give this man your hard earned money! He has no care for his guest or their health and safety!

Great place to stay! The rooms were spacious and the staff were very nice. The beach is across the street and downtown is just a short walk away.

This was my first visit to Grand Haven. The location of this hotel is five star. The beach is directly across the street. It is close the lighthouse, Boardwalk and you are able walk downtown for shopping or dining. The sunset was beautiful from the state park across the street.

I did not expect much from the room after reading the prior Yelp reviews. Our room did not latch after being locked. You could jiggle the handle and push your way into the room without a key. The little table appeared to be a glass patio table with two folding chairs. The bed and linens were atrocious. I would not stay at this place again unless the had s new bed and I brought my own sheets! Time for some updates!

Let's be honest, this place isn't much to look at from the outside, but our room was perfect for our occasion. We celebrated a 30th birthday here this past weekend and stayed in Suite 1k. The view from our room was amazing. Full floor to ceiling windows through the entire room slowing us to look out onto the beach at any time, with a patio for sitting. We were accommodated with a full kitchen which we took full advantage of (you are required to wash your dishes and put them away, but everything you need is provided). 3 twin beds accommodating two ppl each were provided as well as a siting area and full bath. Our room was very clean. Some places you stay, u have to wear socks because the floor looks sticky or questionable. Not here! We prob could have eaten off the floors. I will absolutely be taking my kids here again for our next family vacation.
A plus- lots of antique stores in the area

A shot of the kitchen and one bed from the sitting area

This isn't your typical full-service inn on the beach; the front door locks at a certain hour, no room service unless requested and not before a certain number of nights, no phones in the rooms, and no 24hr front desk staff. The room I had was very quaint equipped with a microwave and refrigerator. I stayed during the Summer Olympics, but couldn't watch it because the t.v. didn't work. Because of the limited stafffing hours, there was no one to inform. They claim to have free wifi, but the connection in my room was so poor I couldn't use it. I tried to use the internet on my phone, but the phone service was really poor, as well. I couldn't even make a phone call or send a text message. All of these things were an issue for me because I was traveling alone and without any phone service was kind of frightening. I didn't sleep very well for this reason and also because the toilet kept running.

Their website is not updated and not really functioning, actually. I was reluctant to book here after visiting their website, but since all the other inns were booked I really had no other choice. It seems that most of the travelers are relatively local and have been visiting for a long time, so maybe they don't need the website. I paid $130 for a basic room for one night, which I thought was steep considering the lack of services/amenities.

On a lighter note, the beach is directly across the street and the lighthouse is a short walk across the beach. But there is no food or stores in the immediate area and downtown is about a 10min (maybe a little more) walk.

This is not really a friendly property to solo travelers, so I wouldn't stay here again.

      Good qualities:

      -Close to the beach
      -Close to downtown Grand Haven
-It was very clean. When we walked in, the place smelled of clean laundry and cleaning supplies.
      -The staff was very nice
-There was a kitchenette in the room with an oven, mini fridge, sink, and even pots/pans and dishes.

      Bad qualities:

-Our room was advertised as having a patio and having a view of the water. When looking out the doorwall, you have to turn your head sharply to the left to see the water. Also, the patio is actually a deck which is shared by everyone in the entire hotel. I was annoyed by some other guests who were sitting out there talking and laughing loudly pretty late into the night. People can sit literally right outside of your room because the entire patio is communal for all guests.

      -No telephone in the room

-The bathtub would not drain when we showered and literally filled up with water during our showers. We only stayed for one night, so there was no getting it fixed.

-There is a lovely courtyard with nice landscaping and lots of tables, chairs, and even grills available for use.

-The bed was terribly uncomfortable. We woke up with sore necks and backs.

If you want to pay a premium to stay in what feels like a college-age kid's first apartment then reserve a room at Bluewater's off-site property near downtown.

First off, the apartments are sparsely appointed with second-hand hotel furniture so you don't want to spend time there. Secondly, the bathroom and kitchen are in desperate need of an update. The minimum amount of work has gone into converting these apartments into a hotel-like space. Additionally, the door's deadbolt was flimsy and barely functional. I didn't feel comfortable leaving my valuables behind in the room. And probably the most disappointing part were the beds (one a pull out). It was like sleeping in quicksand. Nobody slept well.

For the money, go somewhere else. The off-site apartments are ridiculous. Stay away.

Great location, but needs major repairs and remodel. The units are full of mismatched furniture, water damaged walls and ceilings, horribly uncomfortable beds and air conditioners that don't work. The units are cleaned before arrival, but upon close look, it's not a good deep clean. The bathrooms are full of old broken tiles, mold in the chalk, floors falling apart, and toilets that over flow upon every flush. We had dirty sheets and asked for new ones and the young lady went through all the sheets they had and all were stained badly. Parking during peak hours is limited even though you are guaranteed one spot, but for families with multiple cars, there is no where to park. The dishes and pots and pans in our kitchen were filthy. Nothing was properly cleaned or sanitized. While we were there, a family staying in a room next to us had to take their child to an urgent care center because it ate the paint that is chipping and falling off the walls. The location is great. Right across from the beach and a trolley stop. If you are willing to sleep on coils popping out of a mattress, bath in mold and cook in unsterile conditions this is your place. My advice would be to spend a little more and find another place. This town is full of great little cute places that are much more taken care of and safe to stay in with families.

From the price and the photographs online, I wasn't expecting the best experience and was ready to overlook the little things like having to ask for a blow dryer and having no where to park because others were using the hotel's reserved spot, but the thing that put me over the edge was the WiFi.

      IT DOES NOT WORK.

They have two networks but neither one worked. And what could be worse???? No cell phone coverage!!!! I don't know what the deal is with Michigan, but we had trouble just getting cell service the whole time we were there, not just at the hotel but somehow, especially at the hotel! So, we could not use our phones as hot spots to get Wifi, see my point? (We have AT&T so your results may vary.)
Yes, I was there to relax and act like a vacationer. Yes, we had a good time at the beach and the wedding and the art festival. But a girl likes to stay current, you know? And I could not do that at this hotel.
The room was as advertised (3K). We had a separate bedroom with a queen size bed that was decent. The living room had a table with three chair, a small TV, and a pull out couch. Our grown daughter slept, or tried to sleep, there. The mattress was awful and the frame poked right through so she ended up putting the mattress on the floor. That sofa needs to be replaced. Yesterday. In fact, all of the furniture inside needs to be replaced. And get some nightstands for the bedroom, with lamps on them.
There was a kitchen with a small electric stove, full size refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and everything we needed to cook in the room, which we did several times.
The bathroom was adequate, the shower was good.
The patio deck outside was awesome. We enjoy many wonderful evenings watching boats, the lighthouse (blocked a bit by trees), the sunsets (again, blocked slightly by the trees in the park across the stree). The beach is truly right across the street.
The people working there were friendly and responsive. One of them even came up to our patio to show me that *she* could get their WiFi on her phone. Show off. (it doesn't work!)

I will NOT be staying here again. No WIFI is just too much. People want WIFI.
