We almost skipped booking this property d/t the 3 star average on the ratings. I'm glad we took the risk.
We booked online the day of our arrival into GRR. We received a text letting us know the room was available early & we could check-in anytime. As we were spending the day in Grand Rapids, we didn't get to the hotel until about 10pm, still a nice gesture.

On arrival, you'll see the main hotel. Behind it are several motel- style buildings, forming a square. The glass doors open to the courtyard (inner square), and the main room doors open to the parking lot. Being early March, there was no need to worry about bugs being attracted to exterior lights and, in turn, getting in the room on entry/exit.

The room was nice & cool on arrival & it smelled faintly of bleach. The temperature controls worked well. The bathroom was chilly. The toilet had some movement & the seat was an odd fit. Everything was functional.

Next came the cleanliness check: bed & bath clean. There were fuzzies and debris in the odd nooks, the areas where a broom/vacuum can't reach. It baffles me why rented rooms are designed in difficult to clean layouts. Anywho, everything else was clean. There was also already water in the coffee maker. An accidental discovery on hitting the button when placing items on the table. The furniture is well-placed. No stubbed toes. The whirlpool is HUGE & was cleaned well.

The sheets were crisp & we slept well. With the single level buildings, there were no noise concerns from above. Again, the temperature remained even.

We didn't eat the complimentary breakfast.

Where to start?! I flew into Grand Rapids and drove to Grand Haven for a day to take care of family business. A family member and I stayed here for one night, and I wasn't impressed.
When you walk into the lobby you are punched in the face by an overwhelming smell of chlorine from the pool which is basically in the lobby behind glass windows. The chlorine smell also makes it undesirable to want to sit down and eat anything for breakfast.

As far as the room goes, we were on the second floor close to the elevator which was nice.
The air vent in the bathroom was covered in dust telling me not only is it never cleaned, but that no one cares to clean it. It stands out like a sore thumb. If that's not being dusted and cleaned, what else are they not cleaning properly?

Our room had two queen beds, and on my bed there were dried reddish brownish stains on the fitted sheet that were very noticeable. I noticed this at 10:30pm, so when we called down to the front desk we were told to come down ourselves and get a clean set of sheets to change our bed!
This is like a customer bringing in a car with squeaky breaks and being handed new brake pads and expecting the customer to change them out. It's unprofessional, not to mention the front desk person couldn't have cared less.

In the morning when we went to check out we informed the front desk agent of the issue and asked if we could speak to a manager and were informed the manager won't care, nor do anything for us because "the issue was resolved." Yes, the issue was resolved, BY US, the customer. It's a bad attitude, and lack of professionalism on their part, not to mention the front desk agent was wearing a camo tee and jeans with no name badge, making zero attempt to look like an employee who works there.

I'm glad it was only one night because we would never stay there again! Too many choices out there to settle for mediocrity.

      Gross!

Omg NO. RUN!!! If you book through any other website than the best western website, you will be placed in a MOTEL. They literally have MOTELS on the property next to the actual hotel. The motel is filthy, hot and full of BUGS! If you do stay here make sure you're getting an actual room inside the property, not a nasty for hour looking motel

If you stay , make sure check invoice. Mine had someone else's name w/all my info. It was quite the mix up. contacted Best Western customer service I was told I would receive a complimentary credit. I was also told by Carmen(employee) that a credit would be issued. It was a business trip & work would have paid for room. I didn't submit room voucher due to being told about credit. When my credit card statement came there was a charge , but no credit. I called Beacon Best Western in Grand Haven, Mi. Spoke to Autumn(mgr) , I was basically told " Best Western customer service does not have right to issue credit ; her employee meant credit if double charged (that is not how I understood our conversation) ; not her problem I wasn't reimbursed by my work . The problem started at hotel desk . They created the problem. I shouldn't have to lose money cause she won't honor the customer service credit request. Please be aware of info on invoice. They could not explain how it happen so it could do it again. If Autumn does not honor the credit request by customer service then my whole day's pay will be gone due to paying for room. I don't think that is fair. I didn't create the problem.

The room was dirty! There were crumbs on the floor and hair on the bathroom floor. Staff was friendly and offered a new room but when we went to the new room it was worse with handprints on the mirror and dirty floors. We stayed in the original room and the response we got was, " that's surprising, we never hear that our rooms are dirty." I checked reviews after the fact and it appears they have heard the same complaints. The only reason we didn't leave is because the beds were clean, and pretty comfortable. I wouldn't stay here again.

Usually I am not one to give out one stars to establishments, but this "hotel" deserved it. It is a motel style, which makes it difficult for me and my husband to move around. It took about 30-45 minutes just to get checked in! When we got to our room, I was disgruntled to see that the fridge was so small, it could not fit my medium sized McDonalds drink. The beds were relatively comfortable, but there was only about two outlets near them. For me, this is a big issue, since me and my husband both have rechargeable cell phones and medical devices. We decided to go out for a bit and get some ice cream, and when we got back, I was ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED to see that there were bugs ALL OVER OUR DOOR The doors open inwards, so all of those bugs got into our room. We forgot to grab an extra spoon for our ice cream, and we were disappointed to see that there were not complementary utensils for our personal use in the room! The air vent was extremely loud, and over the noise of my heated back brace, I barely got any sleep.
When we stepped foot outside, I was abruptly stopped in my steps by a horrid smell that I can only assume was the smell of decaying feces. This smell made me and my husband physically ill.
In the "lobby" there was an ice machine room that smelled awful and was very loud. There was also a pool that looked almost green, and has probably not been cleaned for quite some time. The pool was very small, which was a bit disappointing.
Overall, I would not recommend this Inn to anyone who is looking for a place to stay, even if it is only for a day or two. I was sadly disappointed by my experience here, and will not be returning anytime soon.

Hey all! Best Western - (Grand Haven, MI) takes your cc for a reservation but when u pay with cash or other card at check out they ALSO charge your initial cc for the room, it is listed as a TEMPORARY AUTHORIZATION on your bank. So if you dont check your bank statement- they are hoping to get TWO full charges from you for the room.
I called BW and they told me its my bank's fault, then i call my bank and bank sez its hotel fault. What is Best Western trying to pull here? Double Dipping?
So, i call my bank- after talking to BW- they wont get charge off UNTIL BEST WESTERN send me authorization to my email to release the hold! One should NOT have to go through this!
So guess what? i called back BW and sure enough- THEY ARE NOW BLAMING THE CREDIT CARD MACHINE SERVICE. BEWARE OF DOUBLE CHARGES when u check out. Check your bank statement carefully.... F.R

After a terrible experience at a hotel across street we call the Best Western Beacon Inn and talked to Autumn. She held 4 rooms for us, let us looks at the rooms, and offered a discount. On a normal day that would outstanding, but on New Years Eve it was above and beyond expectations.

It's very clean, well run, and a phenomenal staff. Highly recommend.

Room was clean, loved the shower and the beds were good. Breakfast was small and for the rates this place is charging should have been way better. Main issue was the cost, we have stayed a much better places for a lot less.

Very nice overnight stay here during the Covid pandemic. Hotel is updated and clean, there was some traffic noise from Rt 31 but it was quiet after midnight- and we had the window open, anyway! Staff was very friendly. Would definitely stay here again.

Tip- we stayed in the hotel rooms with interior access. I think there is another block of rooms with exterior doors that is not connected to the main hotel, so I can't comment on those.
