This was the book store my Mom brought me to as a child almost every Sunday. She would let me get any book I wanted as long as I tried to read it. Thanks to my Mom and The Bookman I have now been an avid reader for over thirty years!

What a beautiful book store! New & used books. Classics, new fiction, cookbooks, MI authors, children's lit and picture books! (Oh and magazines too!)
Warm and charming and a great selection! A great place to buy gifts or treat your kids. (Or yourself!) Lovely! Wish I lived closer to this place!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Greg M.Austin, TX3968939Jul 18, 2017
I can't even describe the awesomeness of my in-laws' house being two blocks from two bookstores. Ah, the luxury of walking to a great bookstore. Bookman is the "new" bookstore (both newer, and with more new books) compared to the "Booked for the Season" bookstore on the other side of the same block.
Bookman is the quintessential local, independent bookstore--tons of well-curated magazines, including magazines (and books) of local interest, a fair number of new releases and other novels, and lots of kids', tween and teen books for bored kids on vacation. My only complaint is that their used book section is probably 50% romance novel, 40% historical fiction geared toward romance ("chick lit" if you will), with very little in the way of classic literature (my favorite) or genre fiction (I look for sci-fi, post-apocalypse and fantasy). Fortunately Booked for the Season has good selections of those (and no new books or magazines, so it's a nice balance). This trip I got "Love Story" (never read it or even saw the movie, but I do know "love means never having to say you're sorry!") and an old Mickey Spillane novel, just for the heck of it. Plus a football magazine for my son, some postcards, and a couple of kid books for my daughter.
Anyway, Bookman is definitely worth a stop if you are in Grand Haven, especially if you can walk there--and you pretty much can from anywhere in Grand Haven. You can also buy a coffee mug that helps fund the restoration of the lighthouse catwalk, so do that if you can.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - GillieDhu M.Grand Haven, MI14313Apr 19, 2017
The Bookman is a Grand Haven treasure! They are knowledgeable, and read just like their customers. If they don't have the book, they'll get for you in a few days. We LOVE the Bookman!

Loved it. They have all the latest mags in a long rack on one wall, decent kids section, local history section, and a little bit of everything else.
Before I knew it we'd dropped $75 on books, like decent/recent, not just random used stuff.
Staff was quite friendly, spent some time chatting about the area and beaches and such.
Also nice place to go while you're waiting for a table at Morning Star to open up ;)Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kendra G.Spring Lake, MI3418Jun 22, 2017
What a great store! I went to a larger chain looking for a series of 12 hardcover books for my husband. They made me feel like I was putting them out. I said nevermind and went to The Bookman. They not only helped with a smile, but seemed really excited about the idea! I even got 10% off for having such a big order. Will definitely be going back!

A nice bookstore, that makes you feel great about reading because it's privately owned.
I'm always able to find a great book when I visit and I like to pop in when I'm waiting for a table at the morning star.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Barbara S.Grand Haven, MI01Jul 24, 2017
I love this bookstore. The people there can help you find the book you are looking for and they are really nice to chat with. They can even suggest books you might like.
