Event Description: History comes alive at SLDL during the second installment of the "Let Freedom Ring" lecture series which explores the 1960s Civil Rights movement. Guest speaker Margaret Hennelly-Maniates will discuss why President John F. Kennedy, born into wealth and privilege, became a champion of civil rights. She will examine the events in his life that shaped his perspectives on equality in education, housing, and economic opportunity, and how his views alienated him from the powerful Southern Democrats of the late 1950s.
