Event Description:
Muskegon Community College will present William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew in Overbrook Theater on Wednesday-Saturday, Feb.15-18, at 7:30 p.m., and concludes with a Sunday matinee, Feb. 19, at 3 p.m. Tickets, which go on sale Wednesday, Feb. 8, are $10 for the Public and $5 for MCC students, faculty, staff, and alumni. Call (231)777-0234 or stop by the Overbrook Theater Box Office between noon and 4 pm Monday-Friday or one hour before curtain. The Taming of the Shrew is considered one of Shakespeare’s most outrageously funny and controversial plays. A wealthy merchant is besieged with suitors for his daughter, Bianca, but even a rich dowry cannot attract anyone to court her fiery older sister, Katherina. Enter Petruchio, the swaggering adventurer who seeks a wife with a fortune and “will woo this wildcat.” The courtship between the headstrong and shrewish Kate and the not-so-gentlemanly fortune hunter Petruchio ignites the stage with masquerade, misdirection, and a look at the roles one must play. The cast includes MCC alumnus Jarod Peterson as Petruchio and current MCC student Allison Gilde as Kate. They are supported by current MCC student cast members Tim Hegedus, Aaron Ponce, Noah Genson, Lexi Andersen, Gabe Cerchiori, Kendra Irvine, Hannah Erdman, Madisen Schuppe, Alyssa Scott, Robin Carpenter, Sylvia DeBruyn, Pleachette Riley, and Cece Gorman. Three MCC alumni round out the cast: Dustin Day, MCC adjunct Theater instructor Kirk Carlson and equity actor MCC instructor Tom Harryman. Taming of the Shrew is directed by Sheila Kulp Wahamaki, who is supported by student director Adrianne Lewis, set designer Tom Harryman, lighting director James Allen, costume designer Susan Eyler, stage combat trainer Chris Farrar, and hair designer Bill Abbot.
