Event Description:
Muskegon Community College will hold a Downtown Center Renovation Groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the College’s parking lot located at Clay Avenue and Fourth Street adjacent to the facility. Renovations have already begun on the MCC Downtown Center with the architectural firm C2AE overseeing work on the $14.27 million project. Clark Construction is doing the building and renovations, which are expected to be completed by Fall 2017. The ceremony is free and open to the public. Design renderings will be on display and refreshments will be served. MCC President Dale K. Nesbary will preside over the event, which includes comments by MCC Board of Trustees President Dr. Donald Crandall, Clark Construction President Sam Clark, and C2AE Principal Owner Dennis J. Bekken. Once completed, the Downtown Center main level will be home to the Richard H. and Ann U. Kraft Rapid Prototype Center, the CNC Machine Lab, the Welding Lab, the Collaboration Lobby and Student Services offices. The second floor will house the Alcoa Foundation Automation Lab; an Electricity Lab; classrooms for CAD, Renewable Energy, Applied Technology and Electronics; and faculty offices. The lower level will house the CWC Textron Foundry Lab, the James and Florence Jackson Pattern Shop, a Materials Testing Lab, Finishing Room, classrooms, and rentable entrepreneur office space. The Rooks | Sarnicola Institute for Entrepreneurial Studies includes a Fab Lab, a Youth Entrepreneurial Space, Best Financial Credit Union, and the Barnes & Noble Bookstore.
