Event Description: Do you dream of donning your finest hat on the first Saturday of May with a mint julep close at hand? Is Churchill Downs calling your name again this year but your budget and schedule just don’t allow you to experience “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” firsthand? Take Heart. Grand Haven Main Street announces its inaugural Derby Day fundraiser event to be held Saturday, May 7 at the Harbourfront Grand Ballroom. Festivities begin at 4:00 PM and include “all things Kentucky Derby” such as a Derby Hat contest and lessons on how to construct a mint julep. There will be hors d’ouevres catered by Porto Bello, a race raffle, silent auctions and a cash bar. And of course, there will be a live telecast of the iconic equine rivalry at 6:00 PM. While the Run for the Roses has been a Louisville mainstay every year since 1875 making it the oldest sporting event in the nation, this will be the first annual Grand Haven Derby Day. To get it off on the right foot - or hoof - there will be all manner of opportunity to get involved on the ground floor: event volunteers, door prize donations, sponsorship opportunities, merchant and business partnerships, event promotion among others. Tickets in advance are $30 per person or $50 per couple or $35 per person at the door, if available. Style that hat, gather the gang and root on your favorite triple crown candidate while you help to enhance and support your downtown community!
