Event Description:
The Muskegon Community College Collage Concert takes place on Wednesday, Feb. 24, at 7:30 p.m. in Overbrook Theater. The concert highlights a variety of MCC performers and includes the premiere of a selection written by an MCC student. Tickets are $5 per person, while students with ID are free. MCC’s Collegiates and Singers vocal ensembles, directed by Thomas Clark, will perform “Riversong a Celtic Celebration” by Roger Emerson; “Sleep” by Eric Whitacre; “The Awakening” by Joseph M. Martin; “Under Pressure” arranged by Deke Sharon; and “Hold On!” Arranged by Jester Hairston. The MCC Wind Ensemble, directed by Daniel M. Meyers, will perform “Festive Overture Fanfare” by Dimitri Shostakovich arranged by Daniel M. Meyers; “Acrostic Song” by David Del Tredici; the premiere of “Muticoloured” by Devon Lemrock, a MCC music student; and “Second Suite in F Movement IV Fantasia On the Dargoson” by Gustav Holst. The MCC Jazz Ensemble, directed by Tim Froncek, will feature two great American composers. The first selection, “Jumpin' With Symphony Sid,” features the work of Lester Young, the tenor saxophone jazz Icon who became famous with the Count Basie Band. The second selection, “Cantaloupe Island,” highlights composer and pianist Herbie Hancock, a member of the Miles Davis Quintet in the mid-1960s. For more information, call (231) 777-0324.
