Event Description: Counterpart’s November 4 meeting will feature a special program presented by the League of Women Voters. The presentation will explore how legislative lines are drawn in Michigan, who draws them and why it is a critically important question for those concerned about fair representation. In Michigan, the district lines are drawn by elected officials in the legislature, effectively allowing politicians to choose their voters and giving the political party in power at the time a tremendous advantage. What are the ramifications of partisan drawn districts that favor one party over another? Is there a better and fairer way to do this? What are the alternatives? These subjects will be addressed. Counterpart will also be accepting donations for the support of a local family that the group will “adopt” for the holiday season. Reservations for the meeting at the Spring Lake Holiday Inn are due no later than noon November 2 (the Monday prior to the luncheon). Guests are welcome. Please note that Counterpart is charged for each lunch ordered, so if you have a reservation, payment for your meal is due even if you cannot attend. Public wishing to hear the program without attending the luncheon are welcome to attend at no cost, and should arrive by 12:35.
