Event Description: The MCC 2015-16 Lecture Series kicks off with "The Importance of Myth" on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6 p.m. in Stevenson Center Room 1100. Free and open to the public, the panel discussion will last about an hour and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. The event is part of the Muskegon Area Arts and Humanities Festival. The panelists are: • Andy Wible, Instructor of Philosophy at MCC • Michael Johnson, Instructor of English (Teaches a mythology course) • Alfredo Hernandez, Instructor of World Religions; and • Bill Utrecht, Pastor at First Evangelical Lutheran Church The group will ask questions and explore answers. What is myth? Why is it used? When is it used best? Should it be avoided? “We often speak of dispelling myths, but we often use them,” explained Any Wible, who coordinates the MCC Lecture Series. “Myths have been important stories that are central to most cultures. Yet, is myth less important than it used to be? Is there a connection between religion and myth? Our diverse panel will discuss these questions and more. “ For more information, contact Wible at (231) 777-0626.
