Event Description: C2C Gallery Exhibit: “Aerial Views” by Sy Ellens Live Music: Americana music by Jack Leaver On the First Friday of every month, Downtown Grand Haven comes alive with local artists and musicians displaying their talents in more than 9 locally owned businesses. Start your evening at C2C Gallery, where you can find a map showing which stores have visiting artists. Sy Ellens graduated from Kendall School of Design and Western Michigan University. He was a teacher fro many years in Michigan and Nigeria. Sy is a signature member of many professional art groups such as the National Watercolor Society and Watercolor West organizations. He has received more than 160 awards in both national and international competitions. Sy’s art is included in private and corporate collections around the world. Mr. Ellens grew up on a farm. He has respect and a special relationship with the land. His aerial paintings show how people divide the land and establish spaces for themselves. One can see how this space relates to many spaces and the unpredictable natural areas of rivers and lakes. Sy uses layers of paint to represent the layers of rotated crops from year to year. Sy would like his paintings to create the illusion that they have no boundaries, extended to all peoples. Since opening in 2011, C2C has hosted live local music each First Friday of the month. This Friday, we welcome Jack Leaver to our stage. Come listen to this talented musician perform on his version of Americana music. A veteran and versatile performer, Jack Leaver has been playing music professionally since the age of 14. A native of West Michigan, Leaver is a uniquely talented and multi-faceted musician, adept on guitar as well as pedal steel guitar and keyboards. His rare and raw vocals showcased in each performance captivate audiences while his diverse music sensibilities resonate with multi-generations. Leaver has fronted several area bands, including a long stint with veteran rock and blues outfit Just Jake. Besides lending his talents as a sideman, contributing his guitar and pedal steel guitar both live and on record with such notable singer/songwriters as Drew Nelson and Ralston Bowles, Jack also co-founded original music bands Mosey, the Dushanes and the Skyscrapers.
