Event Description: Research has shown that traditionally, family businesses score lower on measures of innovation. This workshop is designed specifically for family business leaders to increase their ability to innovate in both processes and products. During breakfast, participants will learn about the Family Owned Business Institute and hear from Joe Schmieder of the Family Business Consulting Group who will discuss his new book, Innovation in the Family Business. Breakfast will wrap up with John Berry, a former Vice President at Herman Miller and the Director of the Design Thinking Initiative at GVSU, who will introduce the concepts of Design Thinking. From 9:00AM - 12:00PM, Seth Starner, of NewNorth Center for Design In Business, will lead participants through an interactive workshop where they can expect to: Work with Your Team of family and non-family managers to find solutions unique to your business. Define Your Core Strengths and learn to leverage them to increase profitability. Learn the 10 Types of Innovation and how utilizing them gives companies a competitive edge as well as a dramatic increase in profitability. Turn Ideas into Action and leave with a plan to implement new concepts in a way that will inspire growth. We encourage you to bring your family members as well as non-family managers to work on your team and take advantage of our group rate. This workshop is not for consultants or professionals looking to network with family businesses.
